Anne Welcome Greenhouse Gas Target

Anne with Ed Miliband

Anne welcomed the statement to the House of Commons by the Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State of the newly formed Energy and Climate Change Department, that the UK government’s targets for greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 will no longer be 60 per cent lower than 1990, but 80 per cent lower.  The Bill will make the UK the first country in the world to put carbon reduction targets into law.

Anne lobbied the Government to have a tougher target on Greenhouse Gas emissions after mounting evidence that factors in climate change had increased since the original target, including more Arctic sea ice melting faster than expected and emissions from other countries growing faster.

The target will apply not just to CO2, but to all greenhouse gasses.  With these cuts, Anne hopes that Britain will be playing its part to stabilise greenhouse gasses at a level that limits global warming to 2 degrees Celsius.
