Parliamentary Allowances

The House of Commons authorities published all claims made by MPs over the financial years 2004/2005, 2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2007/2008 and 2008/2009.  My claims, as published by the House, can be found here.

Due to the revelations about the misuse of MPs’ allowances I had already decided to publish my claims on my website before they were published by the House of Commons authorities. I did so in order that my constituents could see for themselves what I have claimed for.

The only information that has been blacked out is that which relates to sensitive personal information such as credit card/debit card numbers, addresses and telephone numbers, or names of staff members or companies. This was necessary in order to safeguard the privacy of others and to also fulfil their obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998.

My claims include those for my Additional Costs Allowance (commonly referred to as the 'second homes allowance'). As a disabled MP I use this allowance to cover the costs of living away from home for myself and a facilitator who stays with me in the flat I rent while I am in London. Without such assistance I would be unable to perform my parliamentary duties.

I feel confident that, as well as not breaking any rules, I have also acted in an ethical and responsible manner. I hope that by taking the step of publishing claims made my Members of Parliament this will begin to restore public confidence in House of Commons.
