Local Campaigns

Anne cuts protest

Since early 2008 the issue campaign that Anne has been most engaged with is the campaign against the cuts to local services that Aberdeen City Council has imposed in order to offset its budgetary overspend.

In 2008, Anne campaigned vociferously against the closure of Victoria Road Primary School, the closure of Choices Day Centre and the withdrawal of funding from the Glencraft furniture factory.

Anne was also involved in the campaign to keep a number of the city’s leisure facilities open for her constituents, including Bon Accord Baths, the Lynx Ice Arena and the Lemon Tree and has supported efforts by the Friends of Doonies organisation to keep the rare breeds farm open to the public.aNNE WITH SKATERS

In 2009, Anne has lent her support to the campaign by the local pressure group Aberdeen Learning Disability Action Group (ALDAG) to keep the Burnside Day Centre open. She also fought against plans by Aberdeen City Council to reassess older people with learning disabilities to see if their needs could be met within older people's services in order to save money.
